Well obviously my dream coat is out of my price range, but I am now officially obsessed. I must have a new coat. Hang with me over the next few weeks while I sort this out, and if anyone else out there is on a similar quest, join me and we can hunt the elusive perfect coat together. In this preliminary phase of research (yes, I am oh so scientific about it) I'm including coats that range from $100 to $2500. Think of this as the fantasy phase, where we're really just trying to narrow down what it is we're looking for (is it a pea coat? a men's coat? a car coat? what the hell is a car coat?).
Big Peacoat from Emerson Fry, $495
More potential dream coats...
Any other nominees? Fantasy suggestions and realistic ones all welcome...
I love coats and I always have a problem describing them too - pea, car, whatever. I actually just took a really old grey long wool coat and asked someone to hack a few inches off to turn mine into a kind of car coat. I think it works - whatever it is, at least I'm getting some wear out of it now. I look forward to seeing what you ultimately decide upon - most of my choices are limited by my lack of budget and lack of height :o)
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of revamping a coat that's already in your closet. I'm so bad about actually getting stuff like that done though, one of my old coats has the lining completely shredded which should be a fairly easy fix (for a tailor) but it's been that way for 2 years now! Would love to see a photo of your diy car coat...
Deletemy vote is for the Big Peacoat. love peacoats. love the huge lapels. i know this season is all about big boxy coats, but they're, well, boxy.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I didn't think I wanted a peacoat, but that one just looks so damn awesome. Still can't help thinking that even after I buy it I'd still be craving a nice masculine coat though...
DeleteTry bimba & lola from spain.

I've owned two coats from them last year and the price and quality is quite good. They have a few nice men's style coats/jackets this season. I'm holding out for the sales since I already have 3 new coats that still needs to be worn.
Big thanks to Anonymous! How have I lived here for so many years and never even been in a Bimba y Lola store?! Must rectify that this coming week, and I will definitely check out the coats!
DeleteOh, Em Fry, she is so amazing :) love her, and her work...and if only I could love her prices, but... still, love her!
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Never seen any of her work in person though, always a bit wary of these blind(ish) internet purchases.
DeleteThat Emerson Fry outfit gets me every time. So perfect!!!
ReplyDeleteThe UU coat is wonderful.
