bangin'

Time for a new haircut I think.  I was super inspired by the photos of Langly Fox Hemmingway in Into The Gloss.  I don't know if I'll be bold enough to take it all the way, but I am toying with the idea of some bangs this time around.

Some more bangspiration...

Wouldn't it be fun to sport a nice thick full fringe like this?
I don't think I'll go that full on (yet) though.  Partly because I have a tiny forehead (a threehead?) and am convinced this look wouldn't work on me.  Also, another factor is, I'm kind of chicken.  Funny for someone who recently chopped it all off, right?

I'll probably end up going with longer framing pieces, that way you have the option of wearing them down and in your eyes, off to the side, or opened up a bit.
I've toyed with these long piecey sort of bangs in the past a number of times, but it was always when I had long hair (as you can see here if you're curious).  For some reason I imagine that with short hair it will change everything.  And it probably will.  What seems like such a small detail to everyone around you sometimes has the power to make you feel brand new.  I'm excited for a bit of a change, a new bit of movement around my face.

What about you? Pro-bangs or anti-bangs?

*Note: I did it! The day after this post went live I chopped off a ton of hair! If you're curious, check it out here.

  3. Do it do it do it do it! I did it about a month and a half ago because I needed a change... I haven't looked back since! They are easy to care for, and getting long enough to be swept to the side for a different look. Do it! You won't regret it!

    1. Thank you! Those are exactly the words of encouragement I was looking for. You read my mind :)

  4. I love the first look from Into the Gloss - go for it. I would love an edgy cut but I'm not an edgy chick. I can do the middle set of pictures and they are a little like mine though I have a few more layers in - when I don't have the layers, I start to look a bit Stepford wife. And believe it or not I tried to print off some pics of Alexa to take to the hairdresser last week but the printer wasn't playing ball so I just had to say chop a bit here and a bit there but DON'T touch the fringe (and whispered under my breath "or I'm never coming back!".

I like your current choppy do - it rocks.

    1. It's such a good look, right? I think I am just going to go whole hog. We'll see what my beloved hairdresser advises me to do, but I'm heading in today planning on going for it. As for the Stepford Wife look, I've been there. My second short haircut (I've only cut 3 times so far, I'm so new to short hair!) totally made me feel like I had 3 kids attached to my apron strings as I did the dishes all day. The next time I told her I didn't want to feel like a republican suburban housewife since I was none of those things, she she gave me the choppy look I have now. Which I'm super happy with (glad you like it!) but now I'm hungry for even more! You know I have a theory that there's a secret badass hidden within all of us, right? I know there's one somewhere in you too. Maybe she doesn't need to come out in a haircut, but I do see some rockin black boots or something of the sort in your future...

    2. So how did the haircut go - do we get a peep in the next few days? Bangs or fringes as I call them are very delicate things as just the slightest millimetre can change the look of a person. I feel very exposed if just a little too much has been taken off and even my old boss (he was a gay boss admittedly) noticed when I had my fringe just a smidgeon shorter than I was comfortable with. He said I looked different - not quite me - not bad but not me. The other thing is if you've never had a fringe, it doesn't alter the way it frames your face ultimately so that's why it seems so much scarier when you are thinking about a fringe - that really does change your look.

    3. It's a pretty dramatic change indeed! I posted some quick snapshots on my facebook if you want to pop over and take a peek, and when I have time to take some real photos I'll put them up here as well.

    1. Well... not sure about everyone... Right? But I'm going to take a risk and hope that I'm one of those people and just go for it.

  6. I think they're so fun, and my husband has been saying he loves them lately (so random). But...I had bangs growing up, and I know what a nightmare they are to grow out. So, like you, I'm in limbo. haha

    1. Well lucky you, my husband actually is not a big bangs fan. But sometimes you just have to compromise (and by you, I mean him, ha!). When they grow out though, can't you just sort of do what Alexa's doing in the photos above and sweep them out of your way? I actually think that looks quite lovely.
