I swore up and down that I wasn't going to do it; I was not going to wear platform sneakers. But ever since I fell in love with the totally unaffordable but absolutely wonderful sukita, the idea has been eating away at the back of my mind, like a little alien parasite. I would have to find a pair that were neutral enough but also slightly bad-ass and empowering. They would have to be elongating and not at all elephant-ankle-inducing. Oh and they would have to be extremely well-priced in order for me to even consider it.
Is that asking too much...?
Nope. Done and done. Enter the Olympiaa from Steve Madden. Exactly what I was hoping for.
Best part about it was I managed to snag mine at Macy's at 50% off. Score. Still, I'd recommend them even at full price, I love these guys.
Ha ha! They get you in the end. I never had a problem with them - it was just finding the right pair at the right price. I really like the pair I've got but the ultimate pair for me is the Marant Bobby's. They haunt me which is rather sad.
ReplyDeleteYour pair look very well made - the stitching is neat and tidy (I can be stupidly OCD about things like that) - and are they comfy, comfy or extremely comfy?
Those Bobby's are cute. It was actually the original IMs that sort of made me hate the look, so big, so clunky, so puffy, I thought really only 20 people in the world could wear them and not look like elephants, but the Bobby;s are like a sneaker/moccasin hyrbid with some height. Interesting...
DeleteAs to the stitching, yes, it is indeed nice and tidy, and yes, I totally feel you on that. I am always appalled when things like that aren't well done, or when a button-down shirt doesn't button properly at the top, or when the weave of the fabric on a t-shirt goes diagonally off-kilter... those things drive me insane. So I can vouch for the stitches on these. As for the comfort, I'm not gonna lie, they're not cloud-like, nothing like an actual pair of running shoes or those Sukitas I originally fell in love with. But I have successfully worn them on multiple occasions running around the city all day without a single regret or hint of sore feet, on multiple occasions. Are yours not that comfy?
Really comfy actually - I've just not had the opportunity to wear them that much with the horrid weather we've been having. I was in wellies the other day as it sleeted down whilst I was on the school run. When the weather gets drier - they will be making more outings.
DeleteYes the Bobbys are a bit different to the other wedge trainers out there. I've not seen a good affordable version which are similar yet. But I can live in hope.
I recently succumbed to the trend too. They're so easy to wear and comfy and I somehow feel like a badass when I wear them.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. They somehow bestow a casual badassness upon the wearer, something I didn't actually experience until I had the right pair on my own feet.
DeleteThey are amazing! Love the trend <3<3

These trends have a way of seeping into our subconscious and just becoming normal if they stick around long enough. I'm super happy with mine and would highly recommend them.

Ooh, gotta love a shoe bargain!
ReplyDeleteahh!! i love yours! you know how i went over to The Dark Side last fall with my SM Marant-inspired ones. how is the comfort / quality of yours? i think the concept is great - i'm looking to wearing mine again in spring!
ReplyDeleteSuper comfortable! Not gonna lie, it's not like wearing actual sneakers, but I did try some that were extremely uncomfortable and that's definitely not the case here. I wear them all the time and never regret it. The only thing that's a bit of a pain is that they take a minute to put on and take off, no hidden zippers or other tricks. But I think I can spare a few minutes in my day for them... :) I'd highly recommend them!
