mars attacks!

You may have noticed yesterday that my beloved Jamisons are looking a little worse for wear.  They have been little soldiers, standing up to pretty constant wear for almost two years.  And especially when I think about how little I paid for them, I'm impressed.  But they're dying and it's time to let them go.

Of course, that leaves me with a major gap in my shoe closet.  (My figurative shoe closet.  Wouldn't it be great to have an entire real shoe closet?!)

You may remember from the Great Black Bootie Experiment  that I tested the Rachel Comey Mars along with every other bootie known to man.  It got very high marks according to my super scientific criteria, but wasn't exactly what I was looking for at the time.  Well, the time has come, and I think the Mars boots are exactly what I'm looking for now.

Of course, the question is, what color?

I've always kind of thought I would one day get the whiskey, but now that my Jamison's need replacing I'm thinking maybe camel would be better?

But then I saw that she's done a special collaboration with Madewell and produced these in hueso:

They don't have that characteristic seamed arc but that nude tone is so lovely that I don't think I care one way or the other about the seaming.  These actually seem like the most logical replacement for my Jamisons, but the others are so beautiful as well.  Which ones would you choose?  What color are your go-to ankle booties?

  1. I'd go with the whiskey. The hueso is a nice color, but I think the light color will be harder to care for.

    1. True. Definitely something to take into consideration.

  2. I like the hueso even if they are going to be troublesome to look after.

But how about those Prose Zip back booties which are in that little box below? Now those are really sweet.

    1. I like the hueso too, and being the pale pale gal that I am I sort of like the idea that they would be close to my own skin tone. As for the prose, they are indeed beautiful, but that extra bit of height in the heel would take them out of the everyday wear category for me. And I have my Harrows for when I want to wear a fancy bootie. So I need just a slightly lower heel right now.

    2. I just had that argument with myself over a pair of boots as well which I just returned. They were well made, flattering, perhaps a little smarter than I would have ideally liked but fab for the price and I don't often wear black boots so I though done deal. However, the heel height put me off as well. I need boots which to do school run in and generally walk about in. And now I feel very pleased with myself for having returned them. Big pat on back for me.

    3. I'm only just now beginning to reach a maturity level where I can realistically assess and admit when heels are just too high for my lifestyle. I still love my Harrows, but when I bought them I really thought I could wear them daily. Not so. So now, looking for an everyday boot, I know better. Big pat on the back for both of us.

  3. Very nice and simple model of ankle boots! Do you have the possibility to see them before purchasing? Maybe seeing all 3 colours in real life will make you realize which ones you prefer? From the pictures, my favorites are the camel ones, they look very versatile.

I have 2 pairs of ankle boots, one from last year from Minelli, which were quite inexpensive, and I just found a pair of taupe ones in the creator corner of Galeries Lafayette, a brand called Anthology, they are perfect! In terms of style they look a bit like the Sam Edelman ones from your previous post, love that style!

    1. I wish I could see them in person, but sadly I can't, at least not until december when I might find myself back in the states. I have seen them and tried them in black so I know they're comfortable and lovely, but it doesn't help with the color choice. I think you're right that the camel are probably the most versatile, but that doesn't keep me from loving the others as well!

I'm going to see if I can get my Jamisons from the previous post re-heeled, that might extend their life a little bit at least until I make up my mind about their replacement. I'm sure you're going to get tons of wear out of your taupe boots, I know I wore mine practically every other day!

  4. Ah, I would go between camel and nude but they are both great colors! SO maybe both haha?! If I had to pick, I would go for camel. I think the color would be amazing for fall!

    Cheers!

    1. Ha! Yes, if I could do both, I absolutely would! Hell, I'd get all three! There is something more versatile about those camel ones, I think that's they way I'm leaning as well at the moment.

  5. i think the hueso gets my vote. what a gentle soft shade, if you have a similar skin tone and i think you do, it would look amazing!

    1. The hueso is the one I like best in a purely theoretical way, and yes, I absolutely think it's because of my pale skin tone and the way they would just sort of blend in and elongate the leg. But it is true as people mention here that they would attract dirt and scuffs like nobody's business, so even though they're my favorites they may not be the best investment. We'll see, I'll have to do some more thinking on the subject. But thanks for your vote!
