clutchable

I have a new little purse, unlike any other purse I've had before.  I suppose you could call it a clutch, which is what they're calling it over at Zara, but it's pretty big for a clutch, and it also comes with a perfect little shoulder strap.  So it's a purse.  That you can clutch.  It's some magical size that works both in hand and on shoulder, and I'm totally enchanted.

I've never been much of a clutch gal, but after picking up this little guy last winter I've seen how useful they are when you're just running out the door and only need a few things.  But this, this fabulous hybrid, this is going to change the way I do things for sure.

More details...

My favorite part is that it has these two separate compartments inside, one zippered and one magnet-snapped, to keep things flat and organized.  There's another little interior pocket as well.  I've always been partial to big bags; I like the security of carrying my entire life around on my back.  But maybe it's time to take some of that weight off my shoulders and lighten up, literally and figuratively.  Much to my surprise, this little purse holds all my essentials and then some

Perfect, right?  Vaguely reminds me of the Celine Trio, but not enough to feel like a real knock-off, just more in terms of functionality.  Oh and yeah, I know, my phone's busted.  But until it actually coughs its little death rattle I'm going to hang on to it.  And maybe graduate to an iphone and join the rest of the modern population.  But that's a story for another day...

  1. Haha, I was just about to comment on how much I love your phone! I'm still hanging on to my tiny old Samsung clamshell phone even though I skip from flagship to flagship every few months - the perk of being one of two hardware people in a phone company :) I accidentally threw out my old Nokia 3330 last year and was completely devastated. Those phones were unbreakable and total classics. I hear you on the iPhones though, I think this might be the year when I finally join that dark side.

Also, I love your clutch! It seems very "you" :) I've yet to buy a bag from Zara but their selection always seems to be top notch!

    1. Thanks for the phone love! I do love it, and until I broke the screen it's been such a good phone. Love that keyboard. But yeah, I think it's time to join the rest of the world. You work at a phone company and you're still hanging on to an ancient clamshell? Out of love or what?

This is actually my first bag from Zara, but I love it, and the leather is actually really soft and supple! Hoping it holds up well too!

    2. Hanging on to it, but I don't actually use it - it is my backup phone. We get sent new phones all the time, so I'm lucky enough to always get to test the newest models. I'm currently on my third Sony this year :)

    3. That sounds so fun. I do love my little electronic gadgets so much, but just can't justify purchasing them when my old one is still doing (kind of) just fine. Now if they sent me free ones all the time.... :)

  2. I love it and I clicked on the link and then I saw the nude one and I love love that one. I have a couple of black bags but no nude ones and this one looks pretty spot on. Drat - why did you have to show me? I'm all spent up this month. BTW why the iPhone in particular? I had one for a short while which the hubs gave me but I never took to it (probably because I was on a Samsung before). I've only just moved to the Samsung S4 and that is a really nice phone ... but not as many nice phone covers for it. Just call me shallow. I worked for a telecomms company before I had the boys and I had my pick of phones but I'm one of those people, I like things I get used to and usually hang on to them for comfort and ease. Moving to a touch phone was weird. Really weird.

    1. I didn't see it in nude, which is just as well because I probably would have loved it and I really needed this in black. Can you believe I didn't have a black purse until now?! Anyway, go get it in nude and show me ;) (such an evil temptress I am)

Why the iphone? Well, I'm a mac girl through and through, we have 3 in our house, plus 2 ipads, and the idea that I could have a phone as well that would magically sync it all together, it kind of sends shivers up my spine. Just seems so seamless and convenient and awesome. Plus, I'll admit it, pretty much everyone around me has one and I want a toy like they have. Peer pressure, at my age. Go figure.

    2. We have a MacBook Air, 3 ipads and 1 iphone and a Samsung. I like to be awkward/different and I work to a different agenda to everyone else :o)

    3. You're such a maverick ;) But seriously, wouldn't you love to be able to have the same apps and info and files and everything accessible all the time? I'm not a fan of touch-screens in general, but the idea of that kind of universal synchronization available to me all the time is kind of irresistible.

    1. Thank you! It's an old sephora mini, way past it's shelf life, but I love the red so much I keep hanging on to it. Much like my phone. There might just be a pattern here...

  4. Very nice bag! I love that simple, elegant and practial style. Besides, it is very convenient to have a bag just big enough for the essentials when going out for a walk or something. I remember buying a similar one for an event at work, so I could have my passport, phone, hotel keys and notebook around all day long without carrying aroung a big bag, and in the end I keep using it almost every week-end! Let us know how it turns out for you :) PS: I love your essentials, very nice slection!

    1. Thanks! I will sort of have to change the way I switch bags now, because usually I keep my wallet (and lip balm, eye drops, etc) in a small bag or clutch, and then transfer that whole thing when I switch purses. But this one is too small for that. Still, I kind of like the fact that it forces me to downsize. I'm really looking forward to getting into it. I can see how easy and perfect it's going to be, once I make that switch.

    1. Just headed over to pour la victoire, they have this really nice-looking bag they call a clutch but looks like a small purse to me, with a delicate shoulder strap... it's really quite lovely. Since I'm not sure how this size is going to match my lifestyle, I'd be wary of investing any more than I did, but if you know it works I think there's some great options out there. How ridiculous of Zara not to ship to Australia! I suppose you could always use a mail forwarding service if you really had your heart set on something, but it does seem like a lot of trouble to go to when the whole point of Zara is that it's so easy and fast. You should lobby them to start shipping your way ;)

  6. The bag looks juuust perfect! I've been trying to use more clutch bags, too. It forces you to shave down what you carry literally to the essentials.

  7. Ah! This looks seriously great. I've got a big floppy black leather clutch from AA that I've had for years and I love. But, it would be so much better if it had a detachable strap. Looks perfect! xx

    1. I know exactly the one you're talking about! I actually sort of lusted after it for years, but the lack of handle/strap kind of put me off, I just didn't know if I would actually use it, or if in using it, I would just leave it somewhere or have it plucked out from under my arm on the street... But honestly, the more I transition to small bags and clutches, the more convinced I am that this is the way to go. And AA does all those great colors...
